Coral Cove Foreshore Transforms into Family Recreation Precinct

25 June 2008

National developer Austcorp is set to transform the Coral Cove foreshore with its expansion plan of the Coral Cove project, creating a quality project that is expected to bring enhancements to the entire local community.

Austcorp says it will deliver to local residents and the Bundaberg region a quality development and a long awaited improvement to the local foreshore precinct.

"We are determined to not only provide a quality project but to deliver on a foreshore improvement plan that the whole community can enjoy," said Mr Scott Biggs, Austcorp Land Manager Queensland.

"This will include a family friendly recreation park with barbecues, play equipment, seating and amenities for the whole community to enjoy.

"The Coral Cove foreshore improvements add to the works already undertaken by the newly formed Bundaberg Regional Council at Bargara. Council's long term vision is for improvements to extend from Bargara to Elliot Heads and allow greater public access and enjoyment.

"We are confident that our plans for the Coral Cove expansion, including the foreshore enhancement and provision of additional infrastructure, will boost the vitality of the local area," he said.

Austcorp has submitted a Development Application to Bundaberg Regional Council to create 775 traditional residential lots and four integrated housing sites, comprising 212 dwellings to be developed over a ten to fifteen year period on an adjacent 130 hectare site at Coral Cove.

Mr Biggs says that Austcorp is committed to creating a high quality, environmentally sustainable development through the Coral Cove expansion, modelled on award-winning Austcorp projects such as Coomera Waters on the Gold Coast.

"Austcorp is committed to providing road and water infrastructure to support the new development, which will improve access into Bundaberg for the existing Coral Cove community," said Mr Biggs.

"Through careful planning, water-sensitive design and strict covenants, we aim to reduce household water consumption by up to 70% within the new development.

"This will include waste water treatment to the highest possible standard to allow reuse to homes for irrigation and wetland biofilters to capture and recycle storm water," he said.

Austcorp's expansion plans will complement the existing Coral Cove suburb and ensure future population growth in the newly formed Bundaberg Regional Council will be housed in quality, environmentally sensitive developments.

"The Queensland Department of Infrastructure and Planning has identified that only half the number of lots needed to meet projected population growth within the former Burnett Shire have been allocated within the 2007 Broad Hectare Study," said Mr Biggs.

"There is a need for additional residential land and our plans to expand Coral Cove respond to this need with a well planned, integrated and high quality environmentally sustainable development.

"Austcorp's plans also consolidate surrounding urban areas and provide a desirable outcome to manage future growth of the region," he said.

Austcorp is also considering plans to upgrade the existing Coral Cove Resort to increase tourist appeal, in light of the potential expansion of the Bundaberg Airport.
